It’s a Small World

Hi all my lovely readers! It’s been quite a long while since I have posted anything for you all. Nevertheless, I am back again with another scintillating experience to share with you all.

You know there are so many people we encounter in our lifetime, but out of those ‘so many’ only a few are remembered that too usually. Do you all remember the incident I previously wrote about the defence personnel’s daughter where we travelled in the same bus, and the she was a bubbly, ever smiling and vivacious girl working for an airline and I had complimented her for her shining bright smile every morning?(https://theoryofhappyliving.wordpress.com/2014/03/10/3-unique-girls-of-my-bus/)

A week back me and my wife set out towatds C.P., to a bank for encashment of a cheque. We reached there and the bank was apparently empty. There was another couple who was also in the bank and the while the husband was filling the formalities, the wife waited patiently. All of a sudden it struck me that I had seen that lady. But because she was with her husband it was not an easy approach.

A few more minutes passed and my mind kept rumbling as if I had known her but how, that troubled me. The lady there had already noticed me and it is never a good idea to make anyone uncomfortable I decided not to look towards her again and again but rather recall who she was. Astonishingly, she was also in a turmoil and was calculating something, looking here and there and repeated absent mindedly. Finally, after around ten minutes my wife came to me and we were about to leave when I saw her taking out a book from her bag and started reading in exactly the same posture and bag arrangement.

I was delighted because suddenly like the lightning memories of the bus came back to me, that she was the same girl who I had complimented in the bus. She was also smiling and me and my wife walked towards that lady. She told me that though she had recognised me yet she wanted to be sure and hence started reading. I introduced her to my wife and she introduced us to her husband.

As both of us had finished with our work in the bank we decided to sit down for a cup of coffee. Chatting away we remembered the old times and how time passed so fast. The same old stories repeated and the laughter on similar incidents took me back into transience. She being the daughter of a defence personnel was glad to have a partner ie. my wife who was from a similar backgroud. In these fast paced times we did not realise how the clock ran so fast and that it was the time to take leave. Only with the promise to keep in touch and not like the last time.

While we were leaving the lady beaming with happiness did not hesitate to say to me that she still remembered my compliment and eventhough there have been many more in her lifetime, mine topped the list and always remain special to her. I was stunned, yet all I could say was that things were still the same and that she had not changed a wee bit. With this positive and happy note we left to leave with another set of memories to cherish.

What stunned me there was not me complimenting her rather, her remembering this even after 30 long years. This was genuinely a lovely encounter not because of the few good words but her making those words meaningful forever. This inspired me to tell you all that, it is always nice to say good things to someone because the other person remembers you for your words and gestures. So don’t be hesitant if you feel that there is a need for a compliment, go ahead- because it is never late than ever!
